Tom is an Apprentice Technician whose current role includes learning how all the pieces of equipment work, and supporting technical work taking place on site at both TERC and SAF-IC.
His current responsibilities are 3D printing and PAT testing, but shortly he will take on more responsibiltiy with the completion of his training scheme in June 2023, and with the addition of new equipment on site.
Tom has previous experience as a mechanical maintenance engineer at the AMRC training centre, undertaking an apprenticeship, and in the steel industry, working with lathes and other workshop equipment.
Tom studied machining and engineering design at school and has a lot of interest in electrical, IT and fluid power systems.
Andrew has a strong manufacturing background with over 30 years of experience working for the University and is proficient in the use of all workshop equipment, for example milling machines, lathes and welding equipment. He also has 7 years of experience working for the PACT Research Centre, the forerunner to the Translational Energy Research Centre.
